Hypertrophy
Hypertrophy is the growth of muscle size in response to training — it's what people mean by "building muscle."
Hypertrophy is the technical term for muscle growth. When you train a muscle hard enough and give it protein and rest, the muscle fibers repair and grow slightly bigger, so the muscle gets larger over time.
The classic recipe for hypertrophy is moderate reps (roughly 6–12 per set) taken close to fatigue, enough total sets per week, progressive overload, and adequate protein and sleep. Consistency matters more than any single perfect workout.
Hypertrophy is different from getting stronger (which leans on heavier, lower-rep work) though the two overlap a lot for beginners.
Training your biceps 2–3 times a week with challenging sets, over months, leads to visible hypertrophy.
