Set

A set is a group of reps performed back-to-back without resting, such as 10 reps in a row.

A set is a batch of reps done in a row before you rest. Workouts are usually written as sets × reps — for example, "3 × 10" means three sets of ten reps, with a short rest between each set.

Resting between sets (typically 30–120 seconds) lets your muscles recover enough to keep good form on the next set. More sets means more total work, which is one of the biggest drivers of progress over time.

Example

"3 sets of 12 squats" = 12 squats, rest, 12 more, rest, 12 more.
